Rapid, Sand-on-Demand Servicing for Locomotive Operations
Cyclonaire QuickSander™ is a high-performance locomotive sanding system designed to convey traction sand under controlled pressure and rapidly service four or more locomotives simultaneously. Automatic operation and generous on-platform sand storage help crews maintain uninterrupted servicing while reducing the time required to prepare locomotives for continued operation.
Each sanding station includes a supply hopper sized to meet the immediate demands of an arriving consist and vented through a Cyclonaire dust filter. A single or dual DPG-B dense phase pneumatic conveyor delivers sand to four individually controlled hoses, providing flexible access along the service platform.
The hoses are supported by jib cranes and trolleys, making them easier to move despite their extended reach. Operators position the sanding wands, start the filling cycle, and continue with other work while the system automatically fills the locomotive sand boxes. A Doppler-based shutoff system detects when each sand box is full and stops material flow to help prevent overfilling.

Controlled Sand Delivery
How QuickSander™ Streamlines Locomotive Servicing
QuickSander combines centralized sand supply, flexible hose handling, and automatic filling controls to create a faster, more efficient servicing process.
01
Sand
Supply
Traction sand is stored in an appropriately sized station hopper or delivered from a centrally located storage silo.
02
Controlled Conveying
A DPG-B dense phase pneumatic conveyor transfers sand under controlled pressure to the dispensing stations.
03
Hose
Positioning
Operators swivel the jib cranes, extend the hoses, and insert the sanding wands into the locomotive sand boxes.
04
Automatic
Filling
The operator starts the cycle, and the system delivers sand while the Doppler shutoff monitors fill level and stops flow when the sand box is full.
Performance Advantages
Faster turnaround
Multiple stations allow long locomotive consists to stop once for fueling and traction-sand loading, reducing time-consuming repositioning.
simultaneous servicing
QuickSander can support multiple locomotives and, depending on the layout, service consists positioned on adjacent tracks.
automated filling
Pulse jet reverse-flow cleaning helps maintain filter performance while reducing manual cleaning requirements.
overfill protection
Doppler-based shutoff technology detects when locomotive sand boxes are full and automatically stops the sand supply.
